Education

The Endocrine Fellowship has a structured curriculum that extends throughout our training program, starting with the first two weeks of fellowship orientation (Endo Bootcamp), and extending to the Endocrine Fellowship Core Curriculum series of lectures (yearlong), site-specific conferences and multidisciplinary tumor boards.  

Endo Bootcamp: Two week orientation that consists of core didactics, site-specific orientation, shadowing (of current fellows) and community-building events.  

Structured Weekly Didactics: Fellows have protected time every Wednesday morning (8:30 AM - Noon) dedicated to education. This consists of lectures from the Endocrine Fellows Core Curriculum, as well as Endocrine Grand Rounds, cytopathology conference, and board review.  

Endocrine Fellows Core Curriculum: The yearlong series of lectures, given by faculty experts, covers core topics in endocrinology. These include Thyroid disorders, Diabetes/Pumps/CGM, Bone/Calcium/Parathyroid, Pituitary/Adrenal, Lipids, Transgender Health, Women’s Health, Male Hypogonadism, Obesity, and Endocrine Imaging.

Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards: The endocrine division at UCSF participates in a wide range of tumor boards, together with colleagues from Endocrine Surgery, ENT Surgery, Oncology, Pathology, Radiology/Nuclear Medicine/Interventional Radiology. Each Tumor Board occurs monthly, and  include:  Adrenal Tumor Board, Parathyroid Tumor Board, Thyroid Tumor Board, Pituitary Tumor Board and Neuroendocrine Tumor Board.   

Cytopathology Conference: Thyroid biopsy and surgical pathology slides are reviewed weekly with cytopathology, along with clinical discussion of cases.

Case Conferences: Fellows attend case conferences at each site. These include Thyroid Case Conference, Diabetes Case Conference, Endocrine Case Conference, and Metabolic Bone Conference.
